Naomi Maud (Melton) Overfelt, 88, of Fredericksburg passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016 at UVA Culpeper Hospital in Culpeper, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 16 years, Cecil A. Overfelt.

Born in Charlottesville on September 2, 1928, Naomi grew up in Ivy, VA. As a young adult, she worked for the telephone company, and later in life she amused herself and others with stories about her time there. Naomi would eventually go on to become a mother of 3 and begin her career in the hospitality industry. Years later, after retiring as the General Manager of Days Inn North, Fredericksburg, VA, Naomi spent her time crafting, with an emphasis put on crocheting and quilting for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed caring for and giving to others; from buying groceries for a family in need to feeding and providing shelter to stray cats in the neighborhood. Naomi was well-loved by everyone she met and touched the lives of many. She had a beautiful smile and infectious laugh that will be greatly missed, and though her absence leaves her loved ones with a void that can never be filled, her beautiful soul will live on through the memories she created with them.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia "Trish" Cooper (Thom); two sons, Norman R. Hatcher, Jr. (Kim) and Jamie R. Nolan (Mary Cullers); nine grandchildren (Barry L. Jones, Jr., Thomas "TJ" Cooper, III, Tiara Naomi Cooper (David Richards), Destiny "Dusty" Cooper, Mary Evans (Brian), Joseph Hatcher (Emily), Norman "Trey" Hatcher, III (Kasey), Matthew Hatcher (Misty Wells), and Anthony "Tony" Hatcher) and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.
